PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma is a procedure to stimulate hair growth. It controls hair fall. It gives nutrition to the hair roots, thus new hair growth is more voluminous.
In this procedure patient’s blood is taken around 12-18 cc. It is then centrifuged and platelet-rich plasma is extracted, which is then injected into the scalp.
Usually, 3 sessions are done one month apart. It takes around 45 min. for one session. Injections are given with insulin syringes to cause minimal pain which patients can easily bear. It is the same insulin syringes by which a diabetic patient takes insulin daily.
First improvement which patient notices is decrease in hair fall.
Importantly, all patients are not a candidate for PRP. It benefits only a few patients. Therefore we have to choose patients carefully for PRP.
